Special Initiatives Fund (SIF)

Special Initiatives Fund (SIF)
The Special Initiatives Fund was created in 2009 by the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC) and will be implemented for a two-year trial period.

The SIF will have a total budget of approximately $65,000 in annual funding in support of special projects suggested by staff in the university support group (as defined by UW Policy 54). Projects will be solicited from staff members and selected by the Staff Excellence Fund Subcommittee of PACSC whose members are nominated by the Staff Association.

Selections will be made in accordance with the following guiding principles:

  1. projects must enhance the working environment for staff;
  2. projects should be implemented within one year;
  3. projects may be departmental or university-wide, with preference given to projects that involve cooperation and collaboration across departments/faculties; and
  4. projects cannot benefit employees financially.

Recipients of funds will be required to report to the Staff Excellence Fund Subcommittee on project success by submitting a short written report highlighting the project goal, what went well and what they would change (if anything) within one month of the event occurring/project completion.

Project applications must be received on or before March 31 of each year, with funding decisions to be made by April 30. Applications will be considered on the basis of overall merit, type of activity, and who will benefit. All applicants will be informed of the successful projects and an “approved projects” list will be published on an annual basis.
